One of the most popular gifts for boys seems to be car care products. The only snag is that these are only the natural, with the exception of chamois cloths. With the amount of time that modern people spend in their cars, especially if you have a decent job commuters, it should limit the amount of toxins that are exposed to in your vehicle and into your home.
But you can make your car grooming natural cleaning products. You can do to yourself or you can make a batch or three to give as gifts for car-happy guys (and women) in your circle of friends and relatives.
Many of these recipes call for gel soap. Make gel soap is easy. Just save scraps of soap, or chop or grate a bar of soap. Put the leftovers in a bucket or non-reactive saucepan and pour boiling water over the soap. The soap melt and form a slippery gel, once it cools. The consistency of the gel depends on the percentage of water and soap is used, but consistency is an ideal that is less runny shampoo but runnier of honey (the best description of consistency gel soap is best to think of the kind of mucus produced by a heavy cold in the nose - disgusting but true).
Basic car wash:
Mix 4 liters of water with ½ cup gel soap (preferably Castile soap) in a bucket. Add about 10 drops of essential oil of your choice (one of the citrus family is perfect but also scents of lavender good). Use this to wash your car around the outside with a soft brush. Finish by rinsing with a hose or bucket before the soap dries. If doing this to give as a gift, simply add the gel soap and essential oil, and add instructions on how to use it.
To make a heavy car wash suitable for 4x4, double the amount of gel used soap. This method is as effective as professional cleaning.
Tyre washing:
Mix 2 cups baking soda ½ cup gel soap and 1 cup of water. Use this to wash the tires. Rinse off with a mixture of vinegar and water.
Car Polish
Melt 12 tablespoons of beeswax in 2 cups of flax seed oil, plus about 10 drops of essential oil of your choice, in a double boiler. While still liquid, pour it in an airtight container and seal. Leave a couple of days to harden. Apply directly to the machine with a soft cloth moistened with vinegar. Buff to a high shine with a dry cloth.
Interior Fragrance:
Blend about 1 cup of vinegar or vodka 1 liter of water. Add about 12 drops of essential oil or a mixture of essential oils (citrus or citronella help promote alertness, while lavender is calming - can eliminate some 'road rage!). Put in a spray bottle and shake together. Put it in a dark cupboard to mature a bit ', then spray inside the car when you want to freshen up. This mixture can also double as a chrome or productfor cleaning windows - a real bonus.
